Department of Western Languages and Literatures
Department Chair
Dear Students, Colleagues and Visitors,
As the Department of Western Languages and Literatures, we believe that language is not only a means of communication, but also the carrier of cultures and the basic building block of thought. In our academic activities, we encourage our students not only to learn Western languages but also to deeply understand the literary traditions, historical processes and cultural transformations shaped by these languages. In our department, multidimensional studies on German, French and English literatures are carried out; scientific production is carried out in a wide range of fields ranging from classical texts to contemporary works, from philology to literary theories. One of our main goals is for our students to develop critical reading, comparative thinking and intercultural analysis skills. Changing world conditions increase the importance of individuals who can establish healthy and productive communication with different cultures every day. In this context, we aim to provide our students not only with academic knowledge but also with the competence to think and contribute on a global scale.
The doors of our department are open to all students who question, research and want to continuously improve themselves. We would be happy to see you among us with the aim of becoming an academic community that thinks, produces and shares together.
Yours sincerely,
Prof. Dr. Abdulhalim AYDIN
Head of the Department of Western Languages and Literatures
